TCC Materials Iowa/Central Illinois area holds the 2014 SPEC MIX BRICKLAYER 500® Regional Competition

Words: Michael SchmerbeckThe 2014 SPEC MIX BRICKLAYER 500® Regional Competition for the Iowa / Illinois Region was held at TCC Materials, in Vinton, Iowa on September 26, 2014. Eight teams of brick masons and tenders vied for a competition spot in the 2015 SPEC MIX BRICKLAYER 500 National competition held in Las Vegas, Nevada. There, they will compete for over $100,000 in cash and prizes including a new 2015 Ford F-250 4x4 Super Duty XLT truck.

Dave Moyle, a mason with Seehase Masonry, Sumner, Iowa, and his mason tender Mark Seehase edged out the rest of the competition to take home first place. His net count of 642 brick got the job done. Not only did first place carry the opportunity to compete in the 2015 SPEC MIX BRICKLAYER 500 World Championships in Las Vegas at the World of Masonry for Dave Moyle, but it also came with a Crick level, a Marshalltown engraved trowel and tool package and cash. The SPEC MIX CRAFTSMANSHIP Award also went to Dave Moyle, of Seehase Masonry. Dave Moyle also is a past national place finisher winning the SPEC MIX BRICKLAYER 500 Craftsmanship Award in 2008 and 2011 along with a 3rd place finish in the 2011 finals. Bruce Miller, of Bruce Miller Masonry, Riverside, Iowa finished as runner up taking home a Marshalltown Tool package & cash. Third place went to mason Zach Moyle of Seehase Masonry, Sumner Iowa who received Marshalltown tool package & cash prizes also.

TCC Materials would like to thank our industry partners — King’s Material, United Brick, Marshalltown Tools & Star Equipment. Their contributions helped TCC Materials make the 11th annual Iowa Illinois Regional a first class competition. This year’s event was highlighted by the fact that of the eight teams competing, seven of the contestants were from three families which included father and sons along with brothers all competing against each other. This fact reinforces the saying that “Masonry — It’s in your Blood”.
