BRICKLAYER PRENTICE CONTEST

CLEVELAND, OHIO The Ohio Apprentice Contest was held at the Cleveland Home & Flower Show with another record crowd viewing the apprentices work. The contest was won by John Gough, Alliance, with George Hunyadi, Akron, the runner up. The Cleveland City contest held earlier in the week was won by Horst Barth, with second place going to Norman Peck.

The following apprentices participated in the State Meet: J. Leaf, Barberton; Richard Kubicki, Toledo; P. Luli, Canton; P. Lubaski and N. Nicol, Columbus; Mike Hauer and Clarence Munn, Cincinnati; Norman Peck and Horst Barth, Cleveland; George Hunyadi, Akron and John Gough, Alliance.

Judges for the contest were Dan McCarthy, Bureau of Apprenticeship & Training; Archie Stevens, Financial Secretary, Local No. 5, Cleveland; and Frank King, Toledo, State Senator from that area.

Sponsors of the contests were: Bricklayers Joint Apprenticeship Committee; Mason Contractors Association of Cleveland; Local No. 5, Cleveland; Building Laborers Union No. 310; Ohio State Conference of Bricklayers and the Max S. Hayes Trade School.
