Building Codes In Urban U.S.A.
(continued from page 26)

Park, Illinois is using a local code, but reports it is "striving for a building code that would be applicable to all suburban towns in the Chicago Metropolitan area." Lawrence, Massachusetts is using a local code, but will soon adopt either the BOCA or the National Code. Lowell, Massachusetts, too, is using a local code; a new code, expected to be adopted soon, will be either independent or based on the National Code. Fitchburg, Massachusetts is in the process of revising its local code, but insists it will still be an independent code. Brownsville, Texas confesses "On the basis of good architectural and engineering judgment, we are applying a very obsolete and outdated building code. Of course, many details of modern construction are not covered by this code and in such cases we refer to and enforce the Southern Building Code."

DEDICATE NEW OMARK PLANT

Oregon Governor Mark O. Hatfield delivered the keynote speech at the official dedication ceremonies for the new manufacturing plant of Omark Industries, Inc.

The Governor and John D. Gray, Omark president, were joined by business, civic and government leaders from throughout the state for the dedication at the plant, 5665 Lake Road, Milwaukee, a Portland suburb.

In his dedication speech, Governor Hatfield cited Omark as an "outstanding example of the vigorous young industries that have been born in Oregon and are now helping our state gain added stature in the national and international market place."

The new 151,700 square foot manufacturing plant of Omark Industries, Inc. was dedicated on Sept. 1 with Oregon Governor Mark O. Hatfield delivering the keynote speech at the ceremonies. John D. Gray, Omark president, said the plant represents an investment of approximately $3 million. It is situated on a 30-acre site at 5665 Lake Road, Milwaukie, Oregon, in the Omark Industrial Park.

The new $3 million manufacturing facility, designed by the architectural firm of Skidmore, Owings and Merrill is one of the most modern of its type in the world and has 151,700 square feet of integrated production space, according to Gray.

The one-story building is situated on a landscaped 10-acre site in the northwest section of the 90-acre Omark Industrial Park. Plans have now been completed by Skidmore, Owings and Merrill for development of the remaining acreage as plant sites for other light manufacturing companies.
