Gutmann's paper describes the manufacturing processes with various architectural treatments. Color is discussed as well as texture, fabrication, consolidation, and aggregate exposure.

"Precast Concrete Wall Panels: Flowing, Warpage, and Movement," by Sheng Pao Sheng-The use of precast concrete wall panels has made it possible to build the substructure and superstructure of a building simultaneously. Concrete footings are being placed in the field while walls are cast in the plant.

Due to the physical properties of concrete, the large unit, with concrete as its basic material, has its limitations. This paper Sheng Pao Sheng presents for further study some tentative conclusions he has drawn from investigations on several buildings.

"Precast Concrete Wall Panels: Flexural Stiffness of Sandwich Panels," by D. W. Pfeifer and J. A. Han-son-This report describes an investigation of the structural behavior of 31 concrete sandwich panels tested under uniform flexural loading. The panel designs included different types of insulating core materials and different methods of providing positive shear connections between the reinforced concrete shells.

Because they offer in a single building element an economical method of providing structural requirements, thermal insulation, and attractive architectural treatment, concrete sandwich panels have become an important feature in modern building construction.

However, this report contributes to a better understanding of the structural design of sandwich panels, rather than a discussion on either insulation or architecture.

"Precast Concrete Wall Panels: Architectural Commentary," by Geoffrey A. Collens-Profusely illustrated, this architectural commentary by Geoffrey A. Collens, is a London architect's analysis on various buildings with precast concrete curtain walls while on tour in the United States. Some comparisons of practices in both the United States and England are given.

In all, Collens reported on the architectural treatment and construction techniques of 37 structures of various types, designed for many different uses.

Following these seven papers is an appendix which reprints "Tests for Precast Concrete Wall Panels," by Subcommittee V. ACI Committee 533. This report was originally published for discussion prior to preparing a recommended practice. Tests for compressive strength of precast wall panels, and freeze-thaw durability are discussed.

Each of the winners received a trophy and cash award commensurate to his final standing. The awards were provided by the local MCA chapter; the Bricklayer JAC and the Building Trades Employers' Assn.

Members of the Bricklayer JAC: Jerry Ley, a member of Bricklayers Local No. 5, listens to some words of wisdom from Hugh T. Former, masonry contractor representative on the JAC.

Other leading factors involving pedestrian death and injury included crossing an intersection against the traffic signal and stepping from behind a parked vehicle.

But The Travelers reports indicate you should exercise caution wherever you may be.

Last year, for example, 300 persons were injured while standing on a traffic safety isle.
