ELECT GLEESON PRESIDENT
Clarence Gleeson has been elected President of the Detroit Mason Contractors Association. Other officers elected at the organization's Annual Meeting held on January 14th are: Claude Hessee, Vice President; James R. Snyder, Secretary and Robert Vandervennet, Treasurer.
The Clarence Gleeson, Inc., masonry contracting firm has been a member since its organization in the early 1930's. Mr. Gleeson's father was the first President of the Association when it was founded. The Gleeson firm was formed in June of 1924 and six of the eight men are card carrying journeymen bricklayers.
Immediate Past President Dwight Lewis was selected as State Chairman-elect by representatives of the five local Chapters in the State of Michigan.
OPEN NEW FACILITY
Tennessee Zonolite Company, Nashville, Tennessee, has opened a new production facility, reports H. Κ. Sterrett, the firm's president. The 15,000 square foot structure replaces a plant destroyed by fire several months ago.
Chief among the firm's products is vermiculite which is marketed for insulating products, as a lightweight aggregate for plaster and concrete and as a carrier in fertilizer and agricultural chemicals. A new processing furnace has been installed to convert vermiculite ore from mines operated by W. R. Grace & Co.'s Zonolite Division in Montana and South Carolina.

ALBUQUERQUE CHAPTER LEADS THE WAY
'Albuquerque On The Grow' is the theme of a million dollar industrial development fund campaign now under way in that New Mexico capital city and one of the leading groups in that undertaking is the masonry industry. The Mason Contractors are 100 percent behind this campaign and they have put their money on the line to prove their point.
W. H. BARTLETT RETIRES
William H. (Bill) Bartlett retired on January 1, 1967 as Chief Engineer of Dur-O-waL National, Inc., manufacturers of masonry wall reinforcement and related products. Mr. Bartlett joined Dur-O-wal in 1950 and since that time has been in charge of engineering development and product and use research. During his 16 year career with Dur-O-wal., the company has grown to the largest supplier of masonry wall reinforcement in the country and currently operates 11 manufacturing plants in the United States and Canada.
His involvement in the masonry industry began in 1937 when he joined Portland Cement Association as an engineer, a position he held until joining Dur-O-waL..
A registered Professional Engineer since 1934, Mr. Bartlett is a member of the National Society of Professional Engineers, Building Research Institute, Construction Specifiers Institute, American Concrete Institute and has served on two special study committees for Building Research Advisory Board.
Mr. Bartlett will continue to work as a consultant to Dur-O-waL.. He and his wife, Aleatha, live in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
WEATHER OR NOT
The Arizona Masonry Guild and Masonry Industry Program now sponsors the Weather on local channel 3, Monday thru Fridays, at 10 P. M. In addition to the news, sports and weather, listeners get an excellent promotional story on the versatility of masonry and its enduring and economical characteristics.
Leading salesman in the executive committee is Word M. Payne having brought in more than 25 pledges of $1,000 or more. Latest count is somewhere in the thirties.
Bricklayers Local No. 2 has also joined in this civic effort as well as Local No. 953. International Union of Operating Engineers.
This is just one of the many community projects that MCAA Chapters can support for there is not a business, not an individual, who does business or owns property, or works in a community, who does not gain or lose in a very tangible way with the rise or fall of the community's development. To the MCAA Albuquerque Chapter and to that city's top civic salesman, Word Payne, we tip our hats for their support of the Industrial Foundation of Albuquerque.
NCMA ELECTS BUEHNER
Clarence Buehner of Salt Lake City, a 30-year veteran in the concrete industries was installed as President of the National Concrete Masonry Association. Mr. Buchner is Vice President and General Manager of Buchner Block Company of Salt Lake City, a company founded by his father in 1918. He has been a Director of NCMA, a regional Vice President and has served on various promotional and technical committees of the Association. He has also served as President of the Intermountain Concrete Masonry Association and other western concrete industries groups.
