BANKING ON MASONRY

Project: St. Helens Branch of the First National Bank of Oregon

Mason Contractor: E. Lyle Parsley
Photography: Dick Farris
Architect: Louis C. Gilham
General Contractor: A. D. Ford and Sons

The trailer which served as a banking office since First National Bank of Oregon entered the community of St. Helens in August, 1965, has been replaced by a sparkling new facility.

The striking exterior is completely finished with brick, while the interior features wood paneling and vinyl wall covering in addition to exposed brick. An unusual sweeping contoured roofline is provided by glued laminated beams bent into reverse S-curves. Exposed inside, they form a dramatic ceiling and outside they give a cantilever effect in supporting roof decking.

Ground for a driveway from the front around to a drive-in teller window on the side has been built up behind a concrete retaining wall. Complete banking services offered in the 2,400-sq. ft. banking office include seven teller windows, safe deposit vault, night depository and a conference room.
