NADD Report
By: Jeffrey L. Brock
Mr. Brock is Executive Secretary of the National Association of Distributors and Dealers of Structural Clay Products headquartered in McLean. Va. His column will be a regular monthly feature.
Washington, D. C.-NADD Report has a new reporter! On August 15, 1970 I joined the National Association of Distributors and Dealers as Executive Secretary replacing Pat Whitehurst who has accepted a position with Henry Doelger, Inc. a builder and developer in San Francisco, California.
By way of introduction. I came to NADD after a year with the SCPI Staff as Assistant Director of Government Liaison and just previous to that, I was Associate Director in the Field Department of Producers' Council, Inc.
August activities included NADD members attending the Panelization Meeting and Seminar which was held in Chicago in order that the Industry be aware of and informed of the latest panelization techniques and state of the art.
Some of the NADD member companies represented Binghamton Brick Co., Sunray Distributors, Inc., Borden Brick and Tile Co., Spaulding Brick Co., Inc., Webster Brick Co., Inc., Great Southern Supply Co., Henderson Clay Products, Glen-Gery Corp., National Brick Co., The Moland-Drysdale Corp., Thomas Moulding Brick Co., Merry Companies, Inc., Midland Brick Sales Co., Goodwin Companies, Boren Clay Products Co.
On July 7th NADD's Board of Directors held their Summer Board Meeting at The Grand Hotel, Mackinac Island, Michigan.
The Board considered committee reports, conducted routine business and selected October 18-21, 1970 as the date for the next Board Meeting to be held in conjunction with the NADD/ SCPI Annual Meeting. This year's convention site is The Boca Raton Hotel and Club, Boca Raton, Florida.
I look forward to having a closer working relationship with the Masonry Industry, its people and its challenges.

Lull Makes 5,000th Unit
A glittering gold high lift recently rolled out of the production department at Lull Engineering Co., Minneapolis, marking the 5,000th unit manufactured by the company since 1946.
L.. H. Lull, president and founder of the company, was inspired to design his first such machine by contractors' complaints on what was equipment then available to elevate building materials in construction of multi-story commercial and residential buildings.
The Lull company, which also manufacturers sweepers and other products for the construction industry, employees some 150 people in its modern, suburban Minneapolis plant.
Son Heads Lucas Firm
James J. Lucas, son of the late Joseph N. Lucas, is now heading the firm of J. N. Lucas & Associates. At the time of Joseph Lucas' death, Jim was a senior in Civil Engineering at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana. He was a student member of ASTM and ASCE. Intending to pursue his father's work, Jim was aided by a good materials background due to an appropriate selection of electives. During his last semester at Purdue University, Jim commuted between West Lafayette and Chicago in an effort to maintain the lines established by his father during his 20 years as a technical representative in northern Indiana and Illinois, and southern and eastern Wisconsin.
Jim graduated in June and retained four of the five lines handled by J. N. Lucas & Associates. The companies now being represented by J. N. Lucas & Associates are the Neogard Corporation of Dallas, Texas, manufacturers of neoprene-hypalon waterproofings; Patented Products, Inc., of Torrance, California, manufacturers of animated waterfalls; Process Solvent Company of Kansas City, Kansas, manufacturers of quality cleaning products for old and new masonry; and the Upco Company of Cleveland, Ohio, for 89 years the manufacturers of tile and concrete products.
All four companies have assisted Jim during the past six months in his efforts to continue to serve the architect, engineer and contractor with quality building materials.

Masonry contractor Dell Arganbright estimates some 250,000 continental face bricks, one of the largest custom orders ever placed with Hancock Brick Co. of Riverside, are going into the reinforced concrete and masonry structure. The colorful bricks, each measuring 314" x 3" x 11½", help support the structural load.
