Leading Architectural Firms Merge

Harley Ellington Associates, Inc. and Pierce, Wolf, Yee & Associates, two of Michigan's major architectural and engineering firms, have merged. The combined firm will have a staff of more than 180 people, making it one of the largest such organizations in the state.

Malcolm R. Stirton, president of Harley Ellington Associates, described the move as "a significant expension of services for our clients through the melding of pre.essionals in highly specialized areas of endeavor."

Ralph Pierce of Pierce, Wolf. Yee & Associates, said, "Today's technological, economic and social advances have resulted in larger and more complex construction projects requiring new attitudes and abilities from architects, engineers and planners. New concepts of life and environment, and the problems of creating and controlling the proper surroundings for human beings demand expanded professional service."

The merger was effected through the purchase of Harley Ellington stock by members of the firm of Pierce, Wolf, Yee, a partnership, and the admission of Wood and Stirton to partnership in Pierce, Wolf. Yee & Associates. For a time, both of the merging firms will operate under separate names and retain considerable autonomy in their activities.

With the merger of Harley Ellington Associates and Pierce, Wolf, Yee and Associates, the new board of directors of Harley Ellington will consist of (from the left, seated) Malcolm R. Stirton, Dr. Warren W. Yee and Anthony J. Wolf. (Standing) Paul B. Brown, Benson J. Wood, Ralph Pierce and Robert C. Cunov.
