Local No. 56 Honors Belli & Belli and Franciscan Nursing Center

In a brief Saturday afternoon ceremony on April 3, the newly completed Marianjoy Skilled Nursing Care Care Center in Wheaton, III., was the object of a dual award given to architects Belli and Belli and the Franciscan Sisters who are sponsoring the center. The award was presented for excellence of concept in design by the Bricklayers, Masons & Plasterers International Union of America, Local No. 56, DuPage County, III.

Opening remarks commended the excellent use of masonry in many forms varying from granite, brick, limestone and marble to structural and mosaic tile, plaster and concrete. Trygve A. Espeland, Local No. 56 business representative, complimented the "skill and artistry of the tradesmen" and the "functional use of materials by the architects" in the over-all design.

Representing the various firms involved in the construction were Alvin Gorman, president, Power Construction Co., general contractor; Elmer Wirman, secretary-treasurer. V.S. Wallgreen Co., mason contractor, and Robert Nordstrom, Galie Plastering Co., who was plasterer foreman of on the project.
