NADD Report
(Continued from page 36) best to keep our members "in the dark," the hotel provided others means of electricity and meetings were held as scheduled. At present a name change of the Association is being voted upon by all members. The Board of Directors approved the title, and it is now in the process of being submitted to our members for general approval. So far the majority of return ballots have been favorable for "Brick Dealers of America." This action grew out of a recommendation from the Executive Committee which expressed a desire to relate more closely to the members' scope of operation. It was felt by the Board of Directors that the name of the National Association contain the word "Brick," not only to signify the name of our product represented but also for its promotional value. Another vote of confidence for NADD has been occurring from a recent letter written to members whom the Association has not heard from during the past year. It was suggested that perhaps they would like to serve on a committee or on more than just one committee. The response has proved that our members are interested, want to contribute to the Association and the brick industry in any way possible. So NADD continues to be a respected voice for the industry, attuned to industry issues, and our active members deserve much of the credit.
Prefab Concrete Panels Speed Basement Work
Ampress Brick Co., Inc., Des Plaines, Ill., has introduced a new system for constructing basement walls with prefabricated concrete panels. Called Loc-Wall, the panels are 10" thick and 4" wide by 8 high with steel reinforcing. Weighing approximately 2,600 lbs. each, the panels are partially hollow to increase insulation value. After the panels are set on poured-in-place footings, the interlocking key joints are caulked and a grout poured in to seal the key. Horizontal reinforcing rods are then placed in a trough atop the panels around the circumference of the foundation and grouted to completely lock all units into one integral foundation. Significant labor and cost-saving features are claimed for the system.
