What literally can be described as a symphonic blending of building materials and site has been achieved for the outstanding new Terrace Restaurant in Lombard, Illinois. Brick, stone and tile, combined with the excellent masonry craftsmanship of Hansen & Hempel, Inc., team up to create a maximum esthetic effect for the Terrace's compelling neo-Spanish architecture that promises to become a landmark in the western suburban region of Chicago.

The new restaurant is an outgrowth of a former one which was displaced by an interstate highway system. Its founders, Bennie Benson and John Daniels, were foresighted enough to buy a rolling, 6.4-acre parcel of property nearby in anticipation of the move. They knew they wanted something very different for the new location, principally in the use of brick and stone in an unusual way, something that was solid and interesting and yet had a warm, compelling look to it.

Architects Smith and Stephens met this desire by creating a rustic court yard that serves as the entrance to the property. Green shrubbery, flower and rock gardens, and a tranquil pool are coordinated in pleasant harmony to attract any visitor, day or night.
