In Memoriam
EDWARD R. PAUL

The killer tornado that roared through central Texas on March 10 was responsible for the death of a long-time MCAA member, Edward R. Paul of Houston. Killed with him were two of his friends, John Cogbill and Lee Golisek, who were with Ed on his ranch preparing for a wolf hunt. Ed was the owner of United Masonry in Houston. He was 37.

Surviving are his wife, Beverly Jane, and four sons, Edward, Dennis, Donald and Kris, all of Houston; his mother, Mrs. Blanche Paul of Pasadena; a brother, Jerry Paul of Houston, and two sisters, Mrs. Gene Weede of Pasadena and Mrs. Elizabeth Loya of Lakewood, Colo.

David Stoner has been advanced to vice president of sales of Western Products, a division of Douglas Dynamies headquartered in Milwaukee, Wis.... P.D. (Bud) Hermann, executive director of Associated Equipment Distributors of America, celebrated his 25th anniversary with the association. Starting his AED career in 1948 as administrative assistant, Hermann is slated to become president of the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) later this year.

Superior Fireplace Co. of Fullerton, Calif. and Baltimore, Md., has announced the promotion of Harold S. Plotkin to the newly created post of national manager of marketing services. He will be responsible for all marketing, sales and customer services for the Fullerton and Baltimore plants, national warehouses, and company representation throughout the United States and Canada. Sky Climber, Inc. of Gardena, Calif. has opened a new district office in Dallas, Texas, at 2838 Reward Lane. Serving as district manager is Joe Karl.

Superior Fireplace Co., Fullerton, Calif. and Baltimore, Md., has announced the appointment of David Eckblad as fireplace consultant for the Arizona-New Mexico territory as well as the El Paso (Texas) area with headquarters in Tempe, Ariz.

George H. Brattin, regional structural engineer for Portland Cement Association, addressed the April 4th meeting of the New England Concrete Masonry Association, Auburn, Mass.

George Algire, Jr., has been promoted from national sales manager to construction products manager of Desa Industries, Inc., Park Forest, III... Robert H. Clore has been named director of sales engineering and special products for U.S. Steel's Universal Atlas Cement Division, Pittsburgh, Pa.. Louis Fabbri of Fabbri Brothers Construction Co., Inc., and Orlando S. Grande of Grande Brothers Corp. have been reelected to serve respectively as chairman and secretary-treasurer of the Massachusetts Masonry Institute, Boston.
The first honorary life membership in the Canadian Masonry Contractors Association was presented to Alfred P. Barbini of Fred Barbini Limited, Thunder Bay, Ontario, a founding member. Congratulations to Lou Pennachetti on his recent appointment as marketing director of General Concrete Limited, Hamilton, Ontario. He is immediate past-president of the National Concrete Producers Association.
