MCA of Baltimore Elects
Officers for 1974-75
Carl J. Maus of Banner Masonry has been elected president of the Mason Contractors Association of Baltimore for the 1974-75 term.
Elected with him were: Frank B. Campitelli, Baltimore Masonry, vice president; Edwin L. Jenkins, Safway Steel Products, secretary, and Carbra A. McDonnell, Baltimore Brick, Co., treasurer.
Mackey In CCE Post
Curtis T. Mackey (Ltc., U.S.A. retired) has been named director of government affairs for the Council of Construction Employers (CCE). Mackey previously served as director of an international association of crane and rigging companies. He has had 23 years of military construction experience, all with the Army Corps of Engineers.

Three promotions have been announced by Portland Cement Association, Skokie, III. Dr. Eivind Hognestad moves up to technical & scientific development director: Dr. William G. Corley becomes director of engineering development, and George K. McCord, a director in the research & development group, takes on added responsibilities for contract research work... The Texas Concrete Masonry Association recently honored veteran J.G. Lester for his long and dedicated service to the industry.
If the number of automobiles continues to increase, we may have to adopt the lily as the national flower.
Rodger C. Abernathy has been named an architectural representative in the Boston area for Zonolite products manufactured by the Construction Products Division of W. R. Grace & Co., Cambridge, Mass., and A. G. Peterson has been appointed to a

New Masonry Industry Committee Created

Washington, D.C.-A "Masonry Industry Committee" composed of representatives of major elements of masonry construction in North America has been created to serve as a voluntary liaison-communications-action group. Organizations represented on the committee are the Brick Institute of America, the Bricklayers, Masons & Plasterers International Union, the Laborers International Union of North America, Portland Cement Association, Mason Contractors Association of America, and the National Concrete Masonry Association. The International Masonry Institute is an ex officio member of the committee.
Objectives are to improve the masonry industry's liaison and communications; develop and correlate data about the industry, and study and act on problems of mutual interest.
David B. Soloff, Jr., was elected committee chairman. He is immediate past president of MCAA and is associated with Larson & Soloff, Inc., Chattanooga, Tenn.
William S. Jones was elected vice chairman. Jones is president of the Brick Institute of America and also is president of Boren Clay Products Co., Pleasant Garden, N.C. John T. Joyce, secretary of the Bricklayers. Masons & Plasterers International Union, was chosen secretary.
Chairman Soloff said creation of the committee "is a significant step for our industry and should lead to greater cooperation and cohesion, a fuller flow of information within the industry, and more effective action."
MMI Hosts Builders
Thirty-seven members of the International Conference of Building Officials, Northstar chapter, recently attended a special open house at the Bloomington office of the Minnesota Masonry Institute. Purpose of the gathering was to further a mutual understanding and interpretation of the uniform building codes in Minnesota regarding masonry construction.
Sales & Profits Up
for Building Products
In the first quarter of 1974 building material manufacturers topped their strong profits and sales levels of a year ago, reports the F.W. Dodge Division of McGraw-Hill Information Systems Co., New York, N.Y.
After-tax profits and sales increased 2% and 6%, respectively, despite a decline in construction contracts during 1974's opening months.
