MCAA Forklift Safety Course Emblem Adopted

An official new emblem (illustrated here) has been adopted for the MCAA Rough Terrain Forklift Safety Training Course. Colorful decals depicting the new symbol are in the process of being printed and will be distributed to all MCAA chapters, training schools and others participating in this nation-wide safety training program for forklift operators.

The durable decals, which can be affixed to hardhats, are designed for presentation to those individuals who have successfully completed the course as graphic evidence of their achievement.

You probably heard about the man who declined his vacation after he found out the office boy would be filling in for him.

GSA's Solomon to Address MCAA's '78 Conference

The newly appointed head of the General Services Administration-Jay Solomon-will be a principal speaker at MCAA's 28th International Masonry Conference, March 11-16, 1978 in Las Vegas, Nev. In his present role, Solomon is responsible for a huge task. The GSA, the business arm of the federal government, is a giant conglomerate of five divisions with more than 37,000 employees and a budget in the hundreds of millions of dollars.

The GSA constructs and manages buildings, purchases and distributes supplies, provides computer and telecommunications services, keeps the nation's records, and is responsible for continuity of government in time of national emergency.

Prior to his appointment, one of the most prestigious posts in government circles, Solomon was board chairman of Arlen Shopping Centers Co. and vice president and board member of Arlen Realty & Development Corp. Following his graduation from Vanderbilt University in 1942, he joined in the operation and management of the theater chain his father established in 1912.

In 1961, one of the company's drive-in theaters was destroyed by a windstorm and Solomon decided to develop a regional shopping center on the 55-acre site. To turn the company's full resources in this direction, the theater chain was sold. Ground was broken in September, 1961 in Chattanooga, Tenn. for the Eastgate Shopping Center, which was opened in August, 1962.
