Masonry Week In Utah a Huge Success
The 1977 "Masonry In Utah Week" industry promotion program was a "smashing success," according to the Mason Contractors Association of Utah. Governor Scott Matheson designated the week of May 23 to salute the industry and its more than 2,000 employees for their many contributions to the welfare of the state.
More than 125 persons came to the Salt Lake Hilton on May 26 for the Golden Trowel Awards banquet. These included owners, architects, engineers, general contractors, mason contractors, masons, mason tenders, their spouses, and the press.
The press gave excellent attention to the program. Both the Desert News and the Salt Lake Tribune ran large, photo-illustrated articles in their business sections. Feature stories were also carried in a number of trade publications.
Awards were presented to the firms and individuals associated with Utah's seven new masonry structures judged "outstanding for 1977." More than 60 firms were entered in the competition.
Florida "Energy Economizer" Program
The Concrete Promotion Council of Florida in conjunction with the Florida Concrete & Products Association has instituted the "Energy Economizer" award program. Purpose of the promotion is to bring to the homebuilder and homeowner's attention the cost-effective energy savings construction features available in concrete and concrete masonry construction.
To qualify as an Energy Economizer home, the homebuilder or homeowner submits through his local Florida Concrete & Products Association member the required information on house orientation. This information is then sent to the offices of the Concrete Promotion Council to be evaluated for possible qualification as an Energy Economizer home.
The program has been reviewed and approved for promotion of energy savings through cost-effective construction by the Florida Department of Administration State Energy Office.
