The appointment of Sterling L. Hassler as controller for its Grinding Wheel Division has been announced by Norton Co., Worcester, Mass. Promotion of two group vice presidents, John J. Lesko and Karl H. Schwamborn, to newly created posts of senior vice president has been announced by Koehring Co., Milwaukee. Wis.

At its recent annual convention in San Diego, Calif., the American Concrete Institute elected Richard C. Mielenz, Ph.D., as president for the current year. Dr. Mielenz is vice president/research & development, Master Builders, Division of Martin Marietta, Cleveland, Ohio.

On a sad note: Warren Wellford Hobbie, 81, board chairman of Webster Brick Co. and Graves-Humphreys in Virginia, died March 15. Mr. Hobbie was a past president of the Virginia Brick Association (BIA-Region 7A). The Ontario Masonry Contractors Association, which works closely with IMI on promotion in that Canadian province, recently cooperated with other interests on the Meadowvale Solar Project. The goal is to encourage greater understanding of solar heating systems. Bradford C. Low has been appointed national accounts manager for Norton Co.'s Safety Products Division, Cranston. R.I.
