SARA Reaffirms Support Of Design-Build Concept
"Architects should be allowed to involve themselves in all aspects of the construction industry. Professional organizations that restrict the participation of architects in related areas are doing a great disservice to architects, to the construction industry per se, and to owners of building projects. It's a head-in-the-sand approach that is reminiscent of the nineteenth century."
That was the reply of architect Sidney Epstein, upon learning that some architectural organizations want to restrict their members to only design activities. Epstein is a director of the Society of American Registered Architects and president of the Chicago firm of A. Epstein & Sons International. Inc.
The SARA, at its 1977 convention. in Houston, adopted the policy of recognizing architects as "master builders" and encouraged their involvement in areas of construction management, joint ventures, design-build, developer and owner.
