Saturday Morning Workshops. This new feature will make it possible for you to hear a wide variety of subjects. The format allows you to pick any of the six Workshops best suited to your individual needs. On the schedule are:
8:15 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. Workshop #1-"ASTM C-270 or C-780-Their Pros and Cons"
(Session #26) Chambers Lecture Hall, Atrium II, Lobby Level
This Workshop, presented by Paul Rosensteel of the Arizona Masonry Guild, will be a provocative discussion of the testing of masonry mortars in the field. Mr. Rosensteel will describe the pitfalls of using ASTM C-270 as a means of testing in the field and provide data and demonstrate the field testing of masonry mortars as set forth under ASTM C-780. The conepenetrometer and its application to the field testing of masonry mortars will be fully explored and explained.
8:30 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. Workshop #2-"The Basic Computer-Can It Help the Mason Contractor?"

Mark Bradt, prominent computer specialist who has installed numerous computer programs for mason contractors in the Southeast, will present a complete explanation of various ways in which computers can assist the mason contractor in his business operation and field control systems.
9:15 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Workshop #3-"Contract Research Status Report"

George Plumb, MCAA Legal Counsel, and Robert Hatch, MCAA Contract Research Committee Chairman, will discuss with the members the general terms and conditions of sub-contractors' agreements, insurance provisions, warranties, indemnification agreements and, in general, contract language for the protection of sub-contractors.
9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. Workshop #4-"The Richardson/Nazdin Report on Industry Jurisdiction"
(Session #29) Rosetta Room, Atrium II, Mezzanine Level
James Richardson, Vice President, International Union of Bricklayers & Allied Craftsmen, and Leo Nazdin, Director of Jurisdiction, Laborers' International Union of North America, will team up to present a factual discussion of the masonry industry's jurisdictional boundaries, and to give a complete outline of those vital steps necessary to preserve our industry and to protect our rights.
10:15 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Workshop #5-"An Introduction to Masonry Management For a Profit"

Jerry Pope, President of the Colorado Chapter, will provide an overview of his lecture series and manual, which were prepared to assist in the training of mason contractors office and field supervisors. By using this seminar and manual as a reference tool and training aid, you will be able to better organize your management procedures to meet the challenges of today's market place. The 13 chapters covered in Mr. Pope's manual and presentation range from the competitive bid concept to payment conditions and project close-out.
11:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. Workshop #6-"Promotion-Its Impact on the Construction Industry"

Ray Lackey, Executive Director of the International Masonry Institute, will give an overview of the various processes of masonry promotion and will be assisted by Bill Pautler, Executive Director of the Masonry Institute of St. Louis.
