OSHA Plans Special Office of Construction
In response to growing complaints by both industry and labor that the agency's construction standards and compliance activities are fraught with misunderstandings, OSHA is getting ready to set up a special Office of Construction.
The agency specifically has been under attack for its failure to recognize the special nature of construction sites and the industry's transient work force as it sets up health standards and enforcement policies.
Oklahoma Brick to Build New Plant in Muskogee
Oklahoma Brick Corp., Oklahoma City, announced that a contract for construction of its new $7 million clay brick plant to be located near Muskogee, Okla., has been signed with Studiceram. Inc. of Charlotte, N.C., a subsidiary of Niro Atomizer of Denmark, a multi-national corporation.
When completed in September, 1981, the new facility will produce more than 50 million brick annually and is designed so that output can be doubled at a future date. The plant will serve various areas in Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri, Kansas, and Texas.

Recovery Seen for Residential Construction
Residential construction recovery is underway, but some erratic activity is still likely, according to F. W. Dodge Division of McGraw-Hill Information Systems Co.
The firm's chief economist, George A. Christie, reports that after some nine months in the doldrums, residential building made its first positive move in June, boosting the Dodge Index of construction contract value.
"Declining mortgage rates, growing availability of mortgage credit, and rising home sales are working their restorative powers on residential building," Christie said. "The recovery is underway, but residential building has fallen so far, so fast that several months of erratic activity are likely before sustained, vigorous expansion takes hold."
Koehring Gets Tender Offer from AMCA Int'l
Koehring Co., Milwaukee, Wis., and AMCA International Corp., a wholly owned U.S. subsidiary of Dominion Bridge Co. Ltd., Montreal, Canada, jointly annouced a plan providing for the acquisition of Koehring by AMCA. The transaction is valued at approximately $140 million.
Koehring is a diversified manufacturer of specialized equipment for the construction and natural resource industries. Dominion Bridge, a member of the Canadian Pacific family of companies, is a multi-national organization engaged principally in manufacturing, engineering and construction activities.
