"Northern Home" Makes Public Debut
The experimental passive solar "Northern Home" was opened to public viewing recently in Naperville, III., a far western suburb of Chicago.
Designed by Ray Basso & Associates, Architects, Oak Brook, III., the home was built to demonstrate and test energy-saving design, materials and systems, and will be shown for a two-year period. The project is a joint effort of Northern Illinois Gas Co. and the Northern Illinois Home Builders Association, for which it is named.
The Metropolitan Chicago Masonry Council donated more than 20,000 brick used in the construction of the Northern Home. More than 3.000 pavers were donated for installation in the patio and solarium.
