Masonry Visits National Associate Member

During the coming months, so that Masonry readers will have a better insight into the manufacturing and distribution operations of various masonry industry suppliers, the editors will visit a number of these firms to secure updated information on their operations.

Just 60 miles northeast of Atlanta is the bustling little community of Gainesville, Ga. Situated on a picturesque hillside overlooking the rolling countryside is the new headquarters of Norton Company's Construction Products Division.

The first stop on the plant tour shows Gaylan Anderson pull-testing a Norton segmental diamond blade to verify the integrity of the segment to the steel center joint.

A little over three years ago this 45-year-old industry leader moved its facilities from the Northeast to its present location. Masonry decided to tour this new 100,000 sq. ft. plant and bring to the readers a brief pictorial piece on its operation.

One of the main products produced at the Flowering Branch plant is Norton's new dry cutting blade for masonry materials. In the manufacturing process, high technology lasers are used to weld the segments to the steel center of the blade, creating a bond that is said to be stronger and superior to the conventional brazing method. As one Norton official put it, the finished product represents the "first real innovation in the manufacturing process of dia-
