Ann K. Bruttel, formerly with the meeting and convention management firm of Driscoll & Associates, has joined the American Concrete Institute, Detroit, Mich., as convention coordinator. Edwin W. Thomas, Jr., formerly assistant counselor to President Reagan, has taken over the reins of GSA's Region 9, headquartered in San Francisco.

The Mason Contractors Association of DuPage County, III., recently held its Annual Smoker at the William Tell Hotel in Countryside. MCAA Illinois state chairman Tony Luczynski served as host for the enjoyable dinner affair.

John A. "Jack" West has been named president of Genstar Cement & Lime Co., San Francisco, Calif., replacing Mel London, who retired.

Portec, Inc., Oak Brook, Ill., has announced the election of Ralph J. Kindle as vice president/technology.

Greg Webb has joined Laticrete International, Inc. as technical sales rep for northern Florida.

Hensel Phelps Construction Co. has opened a new office at 817-17th St., Suite 704, Denver, CO 80202, (303) 595-8100. Donald R. Ellison, Jr., a former New England banking executive, has been named administrator of the GSA's New England region.

Design Materials, Denver, Colo., and Ceramic Designs, Salt Lake City, Utah, have been appointed distributors of Buchtal USA's line of architectural ceramic tile products. Buchtal USA is the U.S. subsidiary of a leading German manufacturer of glazed and unglazed ceramic tile.
