Elects '83-84 Officers

Theodore P. Lewis, Scranton Building Block Co., Scranton, has been elected 1983-84 president of the Pennsylvania Concrete Masonry Association.

Elected to serve with him were: vice president, Galen Fox, Kurtz Brothers Concrete, Inc., Ephrata; treasurer, William A. Rennekamp, Jr., Rennekamp Supply Co., Pittsburgh; secretary, Merrill H. Landis, Landis Block Co., Inc., Souderton, Pa.

Joseph J. Fizzano, Fizzano Bros. Concrete Products, Inc., becomes board chairman, and V. James Gianoni is executive director.

Cochran to Manage N.C.
Brick Association

Marion R. Cochran, P.E., has been named general manager of the Brick Association of North Carolina. Cochran has been with the association for 27 years and was chief engineer and technical specialist since 1977.

Cochran is a graduate of North Carolina State University with a degree in civil engineering, and is secretary/ treasurer of the Northern Branch, North Carolina Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers.

Gypsum Earnings Up

National Gypsum Co., Dallas, Texas, announced net earnings from operations for the second quarter of 1983 climbed 259% to $10.7 million, more than triple the $3 million earned in the second quarter of 1982.

National Gypsum Co.'s earnings rose 210% on a sales increase of 13% in the first quarter of 1983 compared with the year-ago period. Sales were 231.1 million, up from $209.9 million.

John P. Hayes, chairman, said these gains reflect the "improving residential construction market and continuing... improved productivity."

Brick/Block Plant Tours

The Masonry Institute of Dayton in July and August sponsored several tours of brick and block plants in the Dayton, Ohio area. Participating in the program were Bowerston Shale and Wilson Concrete Products.
