The Terraces/Dearborn Park Apartments, Chicago, III.
Jury's comment: "This entry presents a handsome array of forms and a consistency worthy of acknowledgement. The warm, red brick used is complementary to the other masonry buildings in the area. It has a residential quality and is a traditional Chicago building material. As a further accent, limestone trim runs along the building and down its terraced sides. It is a large piece of architecture that certainly has something to say for itself."

Mr. Lube Oil Change Station, Michigan City, Ind.
Jury's comment: "A pure piece of highway nostalgia that offers a distinctive image to the environment of the commercial strip. Its pristine whiteness makes a strong advertising image. Clad in cement plaster, the building has a solid quality about it, and the unity of the enclosing walls calls attention to the radiated wall of clear glass block. It is a gem of a building in terms of transparency, clarity and solidarity."
Mid-Quad Dormitories, Northwestern University, Evanston, III.
Jury's commment: "This new quadrangle addition to the university certainly makes known that fine stonework is still possible. It makes a quiet option for quality and unpretentious dignity, and is a timeless example of architecture. Continuity is very strong. It is a straightforward plan that makes the right choice."
