Glen-Gery Brickwork
Design Center Opened in Philadelphia

Glen-Gery Corp. officially opened its newest Brickwork Design Center at 2118 Locust St. in Philadelphia in conjunction with the third annual Louis I. Kahn Lecture featuring New York Times architecture critic Paul Goldberger. The lecture was made possible by a grant from Glen-Gery.

"Our support of this distinguished event," said Richard Boxall, Glen-Gery president, "is also a celebration of the opening of this newest center, offering state-of-the-art brickwork design technology and support services to the building design community."

The center houses product samples, design equipment and reference materials, which are available free of charge to architects, designers, contractors, and specifiers. In addition, on-site staff specialists in structural engineering and architectural design are available to assist in specification, detailing and construction as well as in designing brick shapes to solve special structural and design considerations.

"Brick is one of our oldest building materials and the material used to build the original city of Philadelphia," Boxall commented, "We have many fine architects and designers today who may not be fully educated to its full technical and aesthetic potential. Our Brickwork Design Centers are designed to bridge that information gap."

The resident Design Adviser for the Philadelphia center is Paul Perlman, P.E., of Cherry Hill, N.J. Perlman was educated in civil and structural engineering at the Universities of Michigan and Wisconsin and has taught at San Jose State College and City College of New York.
