Dallas Pre-Conference
EDUCATIONAL SEMINARS
Through the efforts of the MCAA Management Institute and the Masonry Systems Marketing Committee, three topflight educational seminars have been scheduled for Thursday and Friday, March 12-13, 1987, prior to the official opening of the '87 MCAA International Masonry Conference. Take advantage of this opportunity to expand your knowledge in these technical fields. This is an opportunity you can't afford to miss. The seminars will be presented in three segments:
Stone Panels
Thursday and Friday, March 12 & 13
Registration Fee: Active MCAA Member, $175; Non-Member, $225; each additional person from same firm, $150.
The MCAA Masonry Panels Committee has developed this unique two-day course, a vital aspect of masonry construction today. The topics and speakers include:
* "Engineering. Shop Drawings and Detailing." with Jim Amrhein of the Masonry Institute of America, Los Angeles, and J. Gregg Borchelt of the Masonry Institute of Houston/Galveston, as the instructors.
* "Installation and Fabrication," by Turner Smith of Masonry & Concrete Consultants, Inc., Houston.
* "Contracts and Liability," presented by MCAA President Dee Brown of Dee Brown Masonry, Inc., Dallas.
* The final segment will be a Field Trip of Dallas, led by Dee Brown, to inspect the many stone panel buildings completed or in various stages of construction.
This seminar will be under the direction of the MCAA Panel Committee headed by L. C. "Lenny" Pardue, Jr., and will be presented in cooperation with the MCAA Education Committee chaired by Sam Lowry.

Construction Claims

Education Committee chairman Sam Lowry has announced that John C. vanDyke, president of Construction Consultants Corp., Dayton, Ohio, will conduct this day-and-one-half session starting on Thursday afternoon, March 12. vanDyke is a civil engineer and was formerly project manager for several large construction firms.

This session will cover "Promoting and Building Reinforced Masonry," by Jim Amrhein, executive director of the Masonry Institute of America, Los Angeles; "Reducing Leaky Walls, Cracks and Efflorescence- Fix the Problem, Not the Blame," by Howard Noziska, executive director, Minnesota Masonry Institute; "Using Fire Safety to Promote Masonry." by John Koller, manager, Allied Industries Department, Portland Cement Association, and "Using National Association Resources and Support," featuring speakers from the Brick Institute of America, National Concrete Masonry Association, National Association of Brick Distributors and Portland Cement Association who will explain their associations' resources and support in marketing masonry.
