To Complete The Report...
The Opryland Hotel is outstanding, the Conservatory section is unbelievable, especially when there are several inches of snow on the ground outside and you're walking around inside smelling the roses.... The Cascade addition, a mere 800 more rooms, will soon be ready and it features brick everywhere. The new entrance way features two beautiful brick murals built by WASCO and General Shale. Thanks to Brad Proctor and Joe Perry who did an excellent job of arranging for about 200 members to see first hand the installation of these two works of art.
Those who attended the opening session on Thursday morning got a real treat. An address from an economist that they could understand. Dr. Dewey Daane, Vanderbilt University gave a concise overview of the 1988 U.S. economy and his thoughts on the year ahead. Tandy Rice, keynoter, gave one of the finest speeches ever. Tandy had the audience in the palm of his hand-he had their emotions from peaks to valleys.
Many Chapters had extremely large attendance, but one can boast it had 100%. The MCA of Southeast Missouri had all five members at the meeting.... Carl Fulco, State Chairman, Maryland, attended his 35th MCAA Conference.... It was also good to see so many Canadian members in attendance. Lenny Pardue celebrated his 45th birthday.... We were greatly honored to have the Boettcher family with us. Edward Boettcher, Edward Boettcher II, Edward Boettcher III and his son Edward Boettcher IV. All but young Ed have been involved in the masonry business in the Saginaw/Traverse City areas of Michigan.
Turner Smith returned home from the convention to enter the hospital for an operation. We're happy to report that he is making a good recovery after suffering a set back.... Our sincerest thanks to all the speakers who made the three seminars so valuable. Unfortunately the Masonry Estimating course got extremely crowded, but the NCAA coaches, who were winding up their convention had taken all the other rooms... and to finish up-guess who was named '87 Driver of the Year by the Vintage Sports Car Drivers Association? You're right if you said Bill Dentinger.
