Mexican Producers Join PCA
The national trade association for the cement industry of Mexico has become a member organization of the Portland Cement Association (PCA). It marks the first time since PCA was founded in 1916 that membership has been extended to cement producers in countries outside the United States and Canada.
Under terms of an agreement signed in Houston January 25, the Instituto Mexicano del Cemento y del Concreto (IMCYC) will be a Portland Cement Association member organization in 1988 and 1989, after which the seven individual IMCYC member companies will be eligible for PCA membership on the same basis as other North American cement producers. IMCYC will also continue a relationship with PCA in the post-1989 years.
Signing an agreement providing for membership in the Portland Cement Association (PCA) by the Mexican cement industry are (seated left to right) William Jenkins, PCA chairman of the board, and Jose R. Trevino Salinas, chairman of the Instituto Mexicano del Cemento y del Concreto (IMCYC). Standing (left to right) are John P. Gleason, Jr., PCA president, and Jose A. Nieto, IMCYC general director.
The agreement provides that chief executive officers of the IMCYC member companies will become members of the PCA board of directors and that all Mexican member companies will have full access to PCA services and activities. IMCYC member companies represent about 80% of the Mexican cement production capacity.
