WACO Appoints McAra

Waco International Corporation has announced the selection of Arthur A. McAra as president of its wholly-owned subsidiary, Waco Scaffolding Company, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. McAra served, for the past eight years, as Regional Sales Manager for GKN Kwikform in the United States. He had previously been manager of Kwikform sales in Scotland and Northern Ireland. Additional sales experience includes employment with SGB and with Stephens and Carter, a Scottish scaffolding firm owned by the BET Group. McAra becomes the first presiding officer of Waco Scaffolding Company since its transition from an independently owned distributorship twelve months ago.

Slate seminars on New 530 Masonry Code

A series of seminars on the new 530 Masonry Code has been slated for presentation in cities across the United States. The events are to be presented by the American Society of Civil Engineers, the American Concrete Institute and the Council for Masonry Research, in cooperation with local ASCE sections and ACI chapters.

SYMPOSIUM

The University of British Columbia and the Masonry Industry of B.C. are organizing the 5th Canadian Masonry Symposium to be held in Vancouver, B.C. on June 5-7, 1989. The Symposium will provide a forum for the exchange of knowledge on new developments in areas such as education and research, design and construction, with special emphasis on the use of masonry in the building enclosure. Professor D. L. Anderson of the Department of Civil Engineering of UBC is chairing the local organizing committee.

PC Opens Design Center

Pittsburgh Corning Corporation, the sole U.S. manufacturer of glass block products, announces the opening of its 2,500-square-foot PC GlassBlock® Design Center located in the Atlanta Decorative Arts Center in the Buckhead area of Atlanta, Georgia.

Architects, interior designers, contractors and builders now have an opportunity to see the full line of PC GlassBlock products in Pittsburgh Corning's southeastern Design Center. They can also benefit from a wide range of product information, technical support, and architectural presentations and services.

RFI Interiors, a division of Rosser Fabrap International, an Atlanta-based architectural design firm, designed the suite. Scheduled to open in mid-April, the Design Center houses a reception area, conference facilities, a technical library, and a photography gallery, as well as display and "how to" areas. continued on page 23

Architects, designers and engineers will benefit from the experience of nationally prominent presenters as they provide information related to the building code requirements and specifications for masonry structures.

The program will begin with a brief history and description of the document and continue with lectures on analysis and design, plain masonry, reinforced masonry, empirical design and seismic design, an overview of the specifications, and concludes with a question and answer session.

Master Builders Expands

Master Builders, Inc., headquartered in Cleveland, Ohio, a wholly-owned affiliate of Sandoz, Ltd., Basle, Switzerland, has closed a transaction for the acquisition of the Ceilcote Company of Berea, Ohio, a subsidiary of General Signal Corporation. Ceilcote, with sales in excess of $50 million, is engaged in the design, manufacture, marketing and installation of polymer-based corrosion control grouts and materials for moderate and severe corrosive environments, as well as air pollution control systems and equipment.
