Winners of the '89 VICA Olympics

The winners of the twenty-fifth annual VICA United States Skill Olympics were announced Friday evening, June 30, at the Awards Session of the VICA National Leadership Conference. The conference was held June 26-30 at the Tulsa Convention Center and Expo Square in Tulsa, Oklahoma. More than 2,500 outstanding vocational students joined in the excitement of hands-on competition in thirty eight different trade, technical, and leadership fields.

The Vocational Industrial Clubs of America (VICA) is the national organization for students in trade, industrial, technical and health occupations education. It sponsors the VICA United States Skill Olympics annually to recognize the achievements of vocational students and to encourage them to strive for excellence and pride in their chosen occupations.

In the brick masonry competition, the top students were:

High School Division
1st-Phillip Reed, DeKalb Co. AVC, Alabama: 2nd-Bruce Martin, Skelton Career Ctr., So. Carolina and 3rd-Ted Howell, Ogden Weber AVC, Utah

Postsecondary Division
1st-Tyler Tipton, Campbell Co. Voc. Ctr., Kentucky: 2nd-Don Schrader, Rolla AVTS, Missouri and 3rd-Michael Siddall, Indiana Meridian AVTS, Oklahoma.

Technical committee members for the brick masonry competition were: Bill Weaver, Brick Institute of America, Chairman; George P. Boozer, Brick Association of South Carolina: John W.
