Historic Trust Presents Awards
The Association of Junior Leagues and Frederick L. Rath, Jr., a pioneering historic preservationist, will share the highest honor awarded by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. The Crowninshield Award, endowed by Mrs. Louise Evelina du Pont Crowninshield, has been presented every year since 1960. The recipients were announced at the opening session of the National Trust for Historic Preservation's 43rd annual conference.
The Association of Junior Leagues represents 264 Leagues across the country whose 172,000 members have dedicated millions of hours in voluntary efforts for historic preservation projects. Rath, a native of Cooperstown, N.Y., is a life long historic preservationist and the first director of the National Trust, which is celebrating its 40th year.
In citing the Junior League. J. Jackson Walter, President of the National Trust, said "The Junior League has galvanized entire communities across America. They contribute at every level to keeping our heritage alive."
