Fred Chairlanze and Jim Baggett of the LaFarge corporation co-chaired the workshop session on "Techniques to Increase Masonry Sales and Profits." They discussed ways in which contractors can motivate their suppliers to promote masonry use and examined marketing techniques and collegiate promotional efforts that expand the contractor's masonry market.

The Association's annual meeting was held Saturday afternoon, February 8 at the Peabody Hotel. Following an invocation delivered by Charles Velardo, MCAA past president, Richard Felice, president, reported that the state of the Association was good and steadily improving. Vice President Richard Matthews then reported on the status of the Masonry Quality Institute, developed in cooperation with NCMA, to address the masonry quality process. He reviewed the development of the program which has resulted in an intense two day program, scheduled for kickoff within a month to be followed by sessions in various sections of the country throughout the year (see Timetable, Page 51 of this issue).

The Association's regional vice presidents then delivered their reports on the state of the economy and the masonry construction business in their areas. The President then read the slate of candidates to be voted on by the membership. As there were no further nominations from the floor, he called for a vote and the slate of officers was elected unanimously (list of MCAA officers appears on Page 16 of this issue).

The Masonry Expo '92 opening reception was held at Orlando's Stouffer Hotel at 7:00 pm, Saturday evening. Expo '92 exhibits opened at 1:30 pm. Sessions were held Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. Some 4,000 industry members viewed the products and services exhibited by more than 200 exhibitors.
