Canadian Winners
Toronto architects, masonry contractors and material suppliers are honored for excellence in masonry project design.
More than 220 architects, spouses and masonry industry personnel attended the dinner and awards presentation at the Sutton Place Hotel in Toronto, Ontario to honor Toronto architects, masonry contractors and material suppliers for their excellence in masonry design. Sponsor was the Toronto Masonry Promotion Fund.
The Coatsworth Crescent Senior Apartments, winner in the residential category, was designed by Jerome Markson Architects. Masonry contractor was Village Masonry, and brick supplier was Canada Brick.
Judges commented that it was clear that the architects stretched the limits of the constraints imposed by the social housing system with the design of the project, and commended them for designing a building with such sensitivity given the difficult nature of the project.
The corner windows and modulated end walls provide extra opportunities for natural light, ventilation and views in what might otherwise be dark rooms. Windows are larger.
RESIDENTIAL category winner, above, was the Coatsworth Crescent Seniors Apartments. Commercial/Industrial winner, right and below, was the BCE Place Galleria.
