8 MASONRY-JANUARY/FEBRUARY, 1994

THE VICTORIAN character of Stanton Park, a previously residential community in Washington, D.C.'s Capitol Hill District, is reinterpreted in modern, graphic terms in this new three story office building designed by Weinstein Associates, Washington, D.C. architects. The building's decidedly contemporary brick skin "paints" a facade of Victorian structural features, such as gables, towers and bays. Rich brick patterning, a nouvelle update of the Victorian, links the building to its neighbors and, in a return to the lavish, "draws" its corner tower. The building has been praised for its historic decorative motif-a great neighborhood design resolution." Photo by Maxwell MacKenzie, courtesy of Brick Institute of America.
