MCAA Builds Habitat for Humanity Home
The MCAA has teamed up with Habitat for Humanity Las Vegas to build the first ever all masonry home. Habitat for Humanity Las Vegas is a non-profit organization that provides home ownership for local low-income families with the help of people and companies donating their time, materials and money. The homes are built and sold- at no profit and with no interest - to working families who otherwise might live in substandard housing.
Traditionally built strictly from wood, the MCAA has developed plans to build the 1200 square foot home from masonry in 1 day. The labor force will combine 1st, 2nd and 3rd year apprentices from around the United States and Canada who will be competing in the Masonry Skills Challenge along with architects attending the 2nd Annual Architect Symposium. Rounding out the skilled labor will be THE MASONRY SHOW's Keynote Speaker Jim Bouton. Jim, the former major league baseball All Star, World Series winner, author of Ball Four, and inventor of Big League Chew bubble gum, is also a stone mason. Jim has agreed to spend his morning working to promote this worthwhile cause.
