Sessions
Orlando attends all five sessions in one track. You can use these certificates to attach to bid documents verifying your expertise in a specialized subject area or just to maintain on file to show your expertise in specific areas of masonry construction knowledge. Educational sessions can be purchased on the registration page at the back of this brochure where you should indicate those you plan to attend. Full descriptions for the sessions can be found below.

This session focuses on basic financial statement analysis and decision making for the construction owner. Learning the information in this seminar is an important first step to understanding how to analyze financial statements in the construction industry. IRS data from over 90,000 construction organizations will be used to benchmark performance indicators. A hands-on case study to reinforce the concepts presented will also be covered.

Description: Brick paving is seeing a resurgence in use. Sidewalks, plazas, driveways, patios and even streets have used brick as a durable surfacing material. Several creative projects will be featured that demonstrate the possibilities with pavers. New information from the BIA is also available to help the designer.

Speaker: Jim Gulde, Masonry Information Technologists, Inc.
This session is an excellent two-hour review of the basic code requirements for building with block. It also illustrates the methods of interfacing block with the trades of plumbing and electric as well as techniques with insulation. This session was developed to review all the major requirements for the construction of excellent masonry residences.

Speaker: Bob Hart, Hart Rumford Fireplace Forms
This session will instruct the mason contractor on how to build a Rumford style fireplace. During the presentation, the following will be covered: types of mortar, brick and block, fireplace design and layout, use of Hart-Rumford Fireplace Forms, required clearances, firebrick and refractory cements, Rumford Theory and throat design, dampers, types of chimneys and flue linings.

# #R5- Water Penetration Issues

Masonry wall assemblies frequently suffer leakage problems due to a variety of reasons, including inadequate design detailing, poor construction, lack of coordination between subcontractor trades and poor materials choices. This presentation will discuss common mistakes or weak practices made on the design detailing and constructions ides of the issue, as well as comment on materials choices.
