North Carolina
North Carolina Masonry Contractors Association's (NCMCA) Golf Chairman, David McQueen, announced the winners of the 14th Annual NCMCA State Golf Tournament on Sept. 28 at Mill Creek Golf Club in Mebane, N.C.

Pictured above, from left to right, the Holcim U.S. first place team of Lee Amick, Doby Chapman, Perrin Babb and Joe Magee.

The Whitman Masonry team of Doug Burton, Ken Armistead, George Openshaw and Dick Moehring finished second. Also, Tim Manning was recognized for closest to the pin, and Benjamin Glover had the longest drive. Unfortunately, the Arrow Equipment Lull forklift hole-in-one prize again went unclaimed.

Lafarge North America provided a chicken barbeque dinner after play.

Proceeds from the tournament help to fund various NCMCA promotional and training projects, and specifically, the Sigmon Memorial Scholarship masonry design competition at the N.C. State University College of Design.

San Francisco
The Interlocking Concrete Pavement Institute Foundation, sister to the Interlocking Concrete Pavement Institute and the Small Element Paving Technologists, is holding the eighth International Conference on Concrete Block Paving at the Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco, Nov. 6-8. The conference theme, "Sustainable Paving for the Future," speaks to the ability of segmental concrete pavements to address total environment design ecological, energy, safety and visual design needs for the 21st century.

The conference will emphasize storm water management with permeable interlocking pavements, Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) and design for the disabled.

Every three years, researchers, consultants, design professionals, contractors and professors all enthusiasts in segmental concrete pavement gather from around the world to exchange information in the continuing series of international conferences. Since 1980, the conferences have provided a rich technical exchange, as well as design, construction and maintenance technology to advance the worldwide industry of segmental concrete pavement.

The 2006 conference has been expanded to include technical paper sessions, continuing education sessions for practicing design professionals and a university professor's workshop.

St. Louis
Visitors to the St. Louis Masonry Centre can now enjoy the convenience of greatly expanded parking, thanks to the September unveiling of a new 60-space surface lot at the building, 1429 S. Big Bend Blvd. in Richmond Heights.

The Masonry Centre houses both the Mason Contractors Association - St. Louis (MCA-St. Louis) and the Masonry Institute of St. Louis (MISL). The two organizations serve as hubs for the St. Louis masonry industry, frequently sponsoring and hosting seminars and events of interest to the local masonry design and construction community.

ASTM C 12 Committee Celebrates 75th Anniversary
This year is the 75th anniversary for Committee C 12 of the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) Mortars and Grouts for Unit Masonry.

On Wednesday evening, Dec. 6, C 12 will celebrate with a dinner and reception at the Hyatt Regency Atlanta. A full program is anticipated. Current members are reviewing minutes from the 1930s to the present to look at important standards developed and other significant accomplishments. Past honorary members are being contacted to participate in the celebration. C 12 is also extending an invitation to members of C 1 (Cement), C 7 (Lime), and C 15 (Manufactured Masonry Units).

The fall meeting of C 12 is set for Dec. 5-7, 2006.
