House Workforce Protections Committee Hearings on the Use of Non-Consensus Standards in Rule Making

Words: David Michaels, Edwin Foulke, Joe Casper, David SarvadiThe Mason Contractors Association of America recently met with Congressman Norwood's staff and issued a letter to Congressman Norwood in support of HR 5554. The bill, introduced by Congressman Norwood, would amend the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970 and the Federal Mine Safety and Health Act of 1977 to prohibit the promulgation of safety and health standards that do not meet certain requirements for national consensus standards.

During the hearings held on June 14th, the Committee heard from the following individuals:

  • Joe Casper, Vice President of Environmental Health and Safety, BIA
  • David Sarvadi, Esq, Keller and Heckman LLP
  • David Michaels, Ph.D. Research Professor and Associate Chairman Department of Environmental and Occupational Health, The George Washington University
