Report of the MCAA Membership Committee

Words: Josh Naragon, Bill Holden

Renewals

The MCAA has just completed its renewal cycle. With just over $647,000 brought in from this past year’s renewals, we fell a bit short of the $675,000 target that was budgeted. Due to certain unavoidable circumstances, we have left open several state chapters & are allowing them additional time to get their regular dues in. They account for approx. $15,000 in additional renewal revenue. The committee is confident we’ll get most if not all of that amount & close the gap even further.

New Members

For the budget year 7/1/08 — 6/30/09, MCAA has had 32 new members join (YTD) accounting for approx. $25,000. Last month alone we added 10 members for a total of $9,800 in new revenue. That’s an encouraging sign considering these down economic times. We’re well on our way to the goal of 79 new members for the year and maybe just a bit off pace of the $75,000 we’ve budgeted.

PR Firm Update

Following a less than encouraging first half with Brown & Martin, MCAA decided that it was in the best interest to discontinue our marketing effort with them and dissolve the relationship. This campaign produced limited results and offered few prospects to pursue. Their final mailing acting as our representative was sent out in January. We intend to revisit the notion of working with a PR firm again in the upcoming budget year. Our next effort would involve working with a company that specializes in marketing programs designed specifically for associations.

New State Chapters

The MCAA continues to work closely with Executive Director Josh Naragon of the Ohio Masonry Association (OMA) & the Indiana Concrete Masonry Association (ICMA) to help grow its member base. In addition, the MCAA has begun talks with Bill Holden in an effort to introduce a new chapter group in the Florida region. Similar talks are underway in Texas and Nevada. It’s our belief that by establishing these state group affiliations throughout the country we greatly enhance our exposure and ensure future growth.

Convention 2009

The committee has set the expectation bar high for this year’s convention. MCAA has spent a considerable amount time & money in an effort to ensure the success of this show. New this year: We’ve enlisted the help of a talent agency to provide us with a greeter to bring member prospects into our booth. After a short introduction, she will “hand them off” to our member volunteer so they can learn more about the benefits of membership. From there, we hope to sign up as many new members as we can. Last year’s convention produced 14 new members and numerous follow up contacts. Our target goal for this year is 30 new members and it’s the committee’s belief that we could very well exceed that number.

New Payment Options

During this last renewal cycle, the MCAA introduced a couple of new “auto-pay” options for the payment of membership dues. Our plan is to make these same options available to everyone for the next renewal cycle. Once the member company fills out the appropriate paperwork, the MCAA can then debit the dues payment directly from their business banking account or business credit card account. This should help simplify and speed up the renewal process.
