COVER
THE LEBOW Engineering Building Center for Automation Technology. Drexel University, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, was one of the eleven winners of the 1993 Brick in Architure awards program jointly sponsored by the Brick Institute of America and the American Institute of Architects. Brick used in the university's original 1891 Institute of Technology brings a high technology edge to the new engineering complex. The building's crisp, clean look comes from machined 8"x8" square brick with a semi-glazed finish, set in flush courses broken only by thin, restrained bands of protruding brick. Geometrically stepped masses, polished with glass and metal, lead to a central courtyard. The awards jury praised the relationship between the building's design and function, calling it "an engineered engineering building." Architect was The Kling-Lindquist Partnership of Philadelphia.
